Archbishop of Florence Antonio Martini was born in Prato on the 20th of April 1720 and died in Florence, on the 31st of December 1809. After taking his vows, he became the director of the Superga University, in Turin. He was a fine scholar, and he was asked to write an Italian version of the Holy Bible, by Cardinal Lanza (a friend of Pope Benedetto XIV). He completed this work in 1771, under the papacy of Pope Pio VI, who made him the Archbishop of Florence, in 1781.
